THE HIGHLANDS
The Highlands of Scotland encompasses an extremely large part of Scotland. But there aren’t “travel-worthy” golf courses found in every acre of the Highlands. For golf purposes, I consider the Highlands (basically) the courses within an hour of the city of Inverness. The “Big Three” in the Highlands are Royal Dornoch, Cabot Highlands (now with both the Castle Stuart and Old Petty courses), and Nairn. But there are some amazing hidden gems to explore! Most people have heard of Brora, where the sheep and Highland cows roam free on the course. Then there’s Fortrose & Rosemarkie, with a local road bisecting the course and traffic to be avoided with errant tee shots.
