The West Coast of Scotland has one of the best concentration of championship golf courses found anywhere on the planet. Added to that are the number of outlying courses that might take a good drive, a ferry, or a small plane to include them in your itinerary. There are courses with rich, Open Championship history like Royal Troon, Prestwick, and Trump Turnberry. My favorite thing about the general Troon/Prestwick area is how open things become and easy that stretch is to navigate compared to other parts of Scotland, especially if you are self-driving. With a little effort, you also might choose to explore the golf courses on the Isle of Islay, in the the Machrihanish area, or the Isle of Arran, among others.
